Our Mission

At Character Crit! we love character designs. Our vision is to help artists of all levels understand what makes a character unique so they may apply that information to their designs. We’ll achieve this by educating artists with a growing library of critiques and interviews about the subject of character design. Artists will have a better understanding of the choices they’re making and the choices they should be making after analyzing the articles we share.

Our Values

Professional feedback is the most valuable trait we offer. Asking family and friends for their opinions may discourage you or they may be too generous about critiquing. Most of the time, people who are not in the field of art don’t know what they’re talking about. We focus on the “why” a design is good or how it could use improvement. The choices character designers make are not random. There’s a rhyme and reason for why a character is a specific color? Or why a caveman is holding a futuristic weapon instead of a rock? In addition, we present psychological theories to back our reasonings so designers can reference them when needed.
